U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer, who represents New Jersey’s 5th district, posted a series of statements on July 16, 2025, addressing issues ranging from inflation and tariffs to international conflict and campus antisemitism.

In a tweet published at 15:45 UTC, Gottheimer commented on recent economic developments: “Inflation went up again in June. It’s simple: Trump’s tariffs are a tax — and hardworking Jersey families are paying the price.”

Later that day, at 19:30 UTC, he addressed violence in Syria: “I am closely monitoring developments in southern Syria and strongly condemn any violence against the Syrian Druze community. A swift and immediate end to this violence is crucial for peace in Syria and the region.”

By the evening, Gottheimer turned his attention to domestic concerns about antisemitism on college campuses. At 23:05 UTC he wrote: “After hearing horrific stories of rampant antisemitism from Jewish students on @Columbia’s campus last year, this announcement is a step in the right direction. But let’s be clear: words are not enough. Columbia must follow through with real action to ensure Jewish students are”

Gottheimer has represented New Jersey’s 5th District since 2017 after succeeding Scott Garrett. He was born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975 and currently resides in Wyckoff. Gottheimer holds degrees from the University of Pennsylvania (BA) and Harvard University (JD).
