Rep. Josh Gottheimer, who has represented New Jersey’s 5th congressional district since 2017, addressed a range of national issues in a series of social media posts on October 9, 2025.
In his first post of the day, Gottheimer reflected on the ongoing efforts to secure the release of hostages taken two years prior. He wrote, “Since October 7, it has been my top priority to bring every hostage home. Tonight, my heart is with the families who have never stopped fighting and who will finally see their loved ones return — something we have all fought and prayed for since that horrific day two years ago.” (October 9, 2025)
Later that day, Gottheimer highlighted concerns over military funding and support for active duty service members. He stated, “Our active duty service members put their lives on the line every day to protect us — we must get their backs. But now, they’re at risk of missing a paycheck because President Trump and extremists in Congress are refusing to work across the aisle to responsibly fund the” (October 9, 2025).
In another post, he emphasized the importance of recognizing exceptional service through longstanding Congressional traditions. Gottheimer wrote, “For more than two centuries, our nation has honored exceptional service through the Congressional Gold Medal — a tradition that stands as a testament to the values that unite us. With my bipartisan legislation, the Congressional Gold Medal will recognize the suffering and” (October 9, 2025).
Gottheimer’s statements come in the context of his tenure as a U.S. Congressman for New Jersey’s 5th district since replacing Scott Garrett in 2017. Born in Livingston in 1975 and currently residing in Wyckoff, Gottheimer holds degrees from both the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University.
