Josh Gottheimer, a U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, recently shared his views on various topics through a series of tweets. The congressman, born in Livingston, New Jersey, and currently residing in Wyckoff, has been active in addressing both local and international issues.
On May 9, 2025, Gottheimer expressed pride in New Jersey schools being ranked the best nationwide. He credited this achievement to “our incredible educators and students.” As the son of a teacher, he emphasized his commitment to securing necessary resources for educators. He stated: “Jersey’s schools are once again ranked the best in the nation — thanks to our incredible educators and students.”
In another tweet on the same day, Gottheimer raised concerns about an agreement between President Trump and the Houthis. He questioned its impact on Israel’s security, referring to it as a key ally. Alongside Representative Don Bacon, he urged for clarification from the administration on how this deal supports U.S. allies and maintains global leadership. Gottheimer tweeted: “Despite President Trump’s deal with the Houthis, the terrorist group is still targeting Israel — our key ally.”
Later that day, Gottheimer called for Newark Mayor Baraka’s immediate release from detention at Delaney Hall, criticizing its use as an immigrant jail by the Trump Administration. He described Delaney Hall as an environment prone to mistreatment and abuse: “Newark Mayor Baraka should be released immediately. It’s absurd that he’s being held.”
Gottheimer holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and a JD from Harvard University.
