Rep. Josh Gottheimer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, has recently shared his views on several pressing issues via social media. His posts address economic concerns, healthcare policy, and a significant religious milestone.
On May 8, 2025, Gottheimer expressed concern over economic policies under President Trump’s administration. He cited warnings from the Federal Reserve about potential increases in unemployment and inflation due to “President Trump’s chaotic tariff whiplash.” In response to these challenges, Gottheimer emphasized his commitment to “fighting to lower costs and make life more affordable for Jersey families.”
Later that day, he addressed healthcare policy following an announcement from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). According to Gottheimer, the CBO confirmed that cuts to Medicaid proposed by “far-right extremists” would result in millions losing their health care coverage. He highlighted the reliance on Medicaid by “more than a third of all children and 60% of Jersey seniors in nursing homes,” advocating for cost reduction rather than cuts: “We need to lower costs — not”.
In a separate post dated May 9, 2025, Gottheimer extended congratulations to Pope Leo XIV on becoming the first American leader of the Catholic Church. Acknowledging this historic event, he wished Pope Leo XIV “wisdom and strength as he enters this new role”: “Congratulations to Pope Leo XIV — the first American to lead the Catholic Church — and to millions around the world celebrating this historic moment.”
Josh Gottheimer was born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975 and currently resides in Wyckoff. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in 1997 and earned a JD from Harvard University in 2004.
