Rep. Josh Gottheimer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, recently addressed several pressing issues through his social media platform. His posts reflect on natural disasters, national security, and international relations.
On June 12, 2025, Gottheimer highlighted the recurring threat posed by hurricane season in New Jersey. He expressed concern over President Trump’s decision to reduce FEMA funding, stating that such actions are perilous for local families: “Hurricane season comes every year, and in Jersey we’ve seen the devastation from Superstorms Sandy and Ida firsthand.”
Later that day, he underscored the importance of safeguarding U.S. technological advancements from foreign threats like China. Gottheimer announced his leadership role in introducing the bipartisan Advanced AI Security Readiness Act alongside Rep. LaHood: “We must protect U.S. innovation from espionage and theft by foreign adversaries like China.”
In a subsequent post on June 13, 2025, Gottheimer turned his attention to Iran’s geopolitical activities. He described Iran as a major sponsor of terrorism and emphasized its threat to Israel and American interests: “Let me be clear: Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism and poses an existential threat to our key democratic ally, Israel.”
Gottheimer was born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975 and currently resides in Wyckoff. He holds degrees from both the University of Pennsylvania (BA) and Harvard University (JD).
