On the morning of May 12, Gottheimer tweeted about being present in Tenafly to support the community as they awaited Edan’s release. He expressed gratitude for the town’s support towards the Alexander family during what he described as an “extremely difficult time.” He emphasized that Americans are never left behind, stating “Proud to be in Tenafly this morning to stand with the community as we await Edan’s release.”
Later that day, at 16:54 UTC, Gottheimer shared his emotional response to Edan Alexander’s imminent return after enduring captivity for 584 days. He acknowledged the overwhelming emotions shared by those in New Jersey and highlighted Edan’s status as his constituent from Tenafly. His tweet read “Like everyone here in Jersey, I’m overwhelmed with emotion and joy.”
In another post made at 19:33 UTC on May 12, Gottheimer reiterated his commitment to not leaving any American behind while expressing honor in standing with the Tenafly community. He mentioned awaiting Edan Alexander’s return home after being held by Hamas for over a year and a half. His statement was “We never leave an American behind.”
