Josh Gottheimer, a U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, recently took to social media to discuss several issues impacting his constituents. Born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975, Gottheimer has been active in Congress after succeeding Scott Garrett and is known for his efforts on various bipartisan initiatives.
On June 3, 2025, Gottheimer announced new legislation aimed at combating animal cruelty. In his post, he emphasized the importance of animals as companions and their role in the economy. He stated, “Animals are cherished companions in our homes, partners for people with disabilities, and essential to our farms and our economy.” The congressman is introducing bipartisan measures to hold those guilty of animal abuse accountable.
Later that day, Gottheimer addressed concerns over rising utility costs affecting families in New Jersey. He criticized PJM Interconnection for not taking action to increase energy supply and reduce costs. His post read: “Starting this month, Jersey families are getting hit with yet another utility bill hike — 40% in one year!” Gottheimer argued that families should not bear the burden of these increases due to perceived inaction by PJM.
In another post on the same day, Gottheimer commented on economic policies he attributes to former President Trump’s administration. Referring specifically to tariffs imposed during Trump’s tenure, he expressed concern about their impact on summer-related expenses for New Jersey residents. He wrote: “President Trump’s ‘Summer Fun Tax’ — all of his reckless tariffs — will make enjoying the summer fun impossible for many Jersey families.” Gottheimer vowed to continue opposing these measures.
As a representative with educational credentials from both the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University, Josh Gottheimer continues to engage actively with policy issues relevant to his constituents from Wyckoff.
