Representative Josh Gottheimer, a congressman from New Jersey’s 5th district, recently made statements on crucial issues, addressing national security, municipal management, and historical narratives. Serving since 2017, Gottheimer spoke out on topics involving firearm regulations, municipal transit management, and executive decisions on public monuments.

On March 29, 2025, Gottheimer discussed the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold background check requirements on “Ghost Guns.” He expressed his commitment to pursuing further legislative action, stating, “This week, the Supreme Court ruled to uphold the background check requirement on Ghost Guns.” Gottheimer emphasizes his ongoing efforts for bipartisan legislation to establish a permanent ban on such firearms to enhance public safety.

Later the same day, Gottheimer criticized the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s financial management under Janno Lieber, sharing that it had lost substantial revenue due to evasion of transit fare payments. He remarked, “The MTA is so mismanaged under Janno Lieber that it lost $700 million to fare skippers last year.” He also questioned Lieber’s advisory position to Governor Murphy, characterizing it as a significant misstep.

Gottheimer also responded to an executive order by former President Trump, which aimed to restore Confederate statues, considering it contradictory to the values of New Jersey citizens. On the same date, he pointed out broader economic issues, stating, “President Trump’s executive order resurrecting statues of racist Confederate leaders is absurd and goes against our Jersey Values.” He further criticized the order, highlighting its irrelevance to the pressing issue of inflation affecting families.
